The term ‘Kundalini', refers to an awakening of energy that comes within the human body. This energy rises up from the base of the spine and upwards throughout the chakras, cleansing and purifying each one. In reaching the crown chakra, the individual finds a new sense of divinity and enlightenment. This energy is described as feeling like a hot, white light that reaches up and spreads tingling sensations throughout the body. Although Kundalini holds roots in the Hindu faith, other religions express somewhat similar spiritual experience and phenomena. Tibetan Buddhists describe a similar state of experience known as ‘Tummo' – meaning ‘fierce women', and in parts of Taoism, such similarities of experience are familiar as ‘Neikung'. The Christian and Jewish faiths have accounted comparable experience in view of embodiment by the Holy Spirit, and feeling the touch of God. The Awakening of Kundalini is described as the ultimate state of unity between the mind, body, spirit, and universe, with a newfound deep sense of meaning and purpose.
