Are we all talking about the same thing? |
|---|
Whatever we call the unexplainable in life, whether God, coincidence, higher power or the will of the universe, is it possible we talking about the same thing. There is a mutual basis between dedicated religious enthusiasts and atheists – we all have a biological and cognitive predisposition to experience spiritual matters. However, the difference between these groups is the way in which they interpret such phenomena. For example, an atheist, in contrast to a dedicated religious practitioner, may attribute external sources of positive and negative outcomes as the nature of coincidence, instead of the will of God – whilst this may be the case, the consideration of coincidence to an atheist may have spiritual undertones which they may not recognise, that if something as tremendous as the universe can happen as a result of coincidence is as phenomenal, and awe-inspiring, as the belief of God is to followers. It really is a shame that so many wars have happened over religious belief, however, this is not necessarily a result of religion itself, but perhaps of human territorial nature. War and conflict happen for so many reasons, but land and differences of nature, culture – of which may include religion but is not the sole cause. In any case, the God or gods which different religions may dispute are irrelevant – they are all human perceptions of the same thing, and we should not argue over which religion or spiritual belief is ‘true', but what positive and beneficial philosophies or teachings can be learned from each as a whole. The conflict over the validity of religion draws attention away from the parts of interest; religion becomes more of a perception of disagreement and debate. There is reason religion and spiritual belief has existed since the earliest civilisations, and why it is still wide spread in today's world. |
