What is Spirituality?

Spirituality is very difficult to define. Try it for yourself. It is very easy to state what spirituality is not, but stating what it is, well, there is no set agreement on what spirituality is, mainly because it is a very subjective and personal phenomenon which differs between individuals. If you have any suggestions on the definition of spirituality, I would be very interested to read your insights.

Amongst the academic literature, spirituality is very broadly viewed as a connectivity with the self, others, and external environment, which may or may not be affiliated with a religious institution. This is a fair understanding in having to generalise such a diverse matter, but it can be appreciated that most forms of spirituality would fall within these guidelines. Some researchers in this area, that spirituality comes in the main forms of religion, closeness to others, nature and the cosmos, and can be a sense of connectedness, an a source of support, enlightenment and inspiration.
